The History of the Opium Wars

The problem that led to the opium wars, and it's actually kind of people will describe it in certain ways, but this is the way that I would describe it. So what ended up happening was that the industrial revolution happened when people moved from drinking beer to drinking tea. And so one of the things that happened was that after the American revolution, Britain basically lost its supply of Mexican silver. They had to find another product in order to replace tea, and they found opium, and that caused a lot of problems in China because opium, you don't want to operate heavy machinery with opium.
