Fertility doctor Kiyusaka Oginnok discovered that ovulation happens at day 14 of a typical menstrual cycle. His discovery birthed the rhythm method, which was used by Catholics to control their fertility. It also helped develop one of the most significant technologies of the 20th century - the contraceptive pill. But while there is no doubting the importance of the pill to women's lives, it has now been available for more than 60 years and still isn't perfect.
