Astronomy require clean sky, but the side of astronomy we are working on has an extra requirement. Our worst enemy, it is water, water vapor in the atmosphere. We need a place that is extremely dry. The more you look far away, the more you go back in the time. So at some point we practically look at the origin of the universe.
