"I don't have a right to claim a Mi'kmaa identity," Justin says. He doesn't regret getting to know the community better, but he also believes this isn't an open and shut sort of story. Not everyone has access to elders to speak with or privileges as a journalist to be embedded in discussions about race and indigenous communities.
