The History of Character Encodings
Character encodings actually have a pretty long history. The character encoding that we used today still goes back to those teletypes. And believe it or not, it was influenced going even further back to the telegraph. So unfortunately, for fortunately or unfortunately, our standard character sets are highly influenced by English and kind of the standard American English.
