Is Military Intervention the Favored Instrument of Imperialism?
I think sanctions become the preferred instrument of imperialism. It's deployed on states that are weakened and do not have a military deterrent capacity. Sanctions may provide a way in which you can avoid a 10-15-year military occupation, but still impose severe costs on the people of those territories. I think it really demonstrates to these states that if you want to now participate in the world economy, you have to restructure your sovereignty.
