The Prophet Amos's Metaphor
Until now, the only obligation of the Hebrews has been to follow God's law. Amos says that is not enough; people must also do good works. Along with many other prophets, Amos uses everyday objects to construct metaphors. Later prophets will construct hippie-trippy imagery so dense that decipherment is almost impossible.
