Alec Baldwin's character thinks he's found his father and that it means something to both of them as it does to him. He doesn't realize the father just wants a kidney, so he's glad to find his son. That happens in less comedic ways and sometimes in tragic ways in real life where we think we're on the same track and we're really not. If you're really on two different tracks, you'll see in the other person's face that things aren't really driving here.
