One of the main reasons people lie is to avoid accountability. pathological liars are also more prone to have gas siding tendencies, says Dr Andrew Keen. Some believe that all gas siding or manipulative behavior is actually learned. For children who grow up with parents who gas like their behavior becomes normalized.

The term 'gaslighting' has grown in popularity in recent years and become part of our shared psychobabble, giving our generation the language to describe a pattern of behaviour that has existed for centuries.
