The book of morman is a good example of the complex relationship between persistent religious faith and some of the rationalizing elementsof enlightenment thought. The text very conveniently arises right as enlightenment thought starts seeping into broader american and religious life. And so to say that miracles still occur, ccur, god still speaks, and the world is not as disenchanted asrationalizing moderns were trying to make it definitely does that.
