Shannon is a son of Michigan in that way where he has this hard-headed practicality. He had a ton of unstructured time to tinker and play and make stuff. His dad was a local figure and local businessman, who also did a lot of work with his hands. This is the kind of rural do-it-yourself community that Shannon grew up in.
