explanation is sort of a funny process in that it can lead to two very diametrically opposed consequences. Sometimes trying to explain something might lead us to realize an inadequacy in our current theorizing, and so it might be the impetus for us to revise our beliefs. But i think the political discourse we see right now makes it difficult for those kinds of conditions to obtain.
