Crypto Kitties - A Game on the Ethereum Blockchain
One of the first attempts to create a game on the blockchain was Crypto Kitties, which was launched in 2017. It had no real gameplay other than buying, owning, and breeding cats through this sort of random combinatorial activity. At one point it was estimated that a substantial fraction of all Ethereum activity, perhaps as much as 25% wasCrypto Kitties. This not only bogged down the Etherum network globally, but it also exposed some weaknesses in the ETH chain.
