The Relationship Between King and Buchanan

In 1852 King was elected vice president, but by the time of his election he was already very ill with tuberculosis and he died very soon after. Some sources claim that the nieces of King and Buchanan burned their letters,. sounds saucy, while Valsiriski, who is a more sort of sober reading or this relationship, dismisses this. It is however certainly true that King followed Buchanan's instructions to destroy all of his private letters. After King died in 1853 Buchanan described him as quote, among the best, the purest and most consistent public man I have known.
