Machiavelli's Reputation
Niccolo machiavelli lived from 14 69 to 15 27. In his own lifetime, he was a respected academic and government minister. Almost immediately following his death, when the prince started to be widely printed, his public image began to transform. 60 years after his death, playwright christopher marlow would create a character based on the now notorious florent n author. The jew of malta begins with a character named machiavel declaring that all the bad things you are about to see unfold for the characters happen because they follow his dark philosophy.
