A sounding rocket can be just 16 feet in length. In some cases they're more similar to the electrons, which are still essentially a really big sounding rocket. They do hit low earth orbit with the electrons, but they're tiny. I imagine like a scaled up version of, like one of those those missiles that, say, an iter jet is carrying on its wing.
