The value of software itself isn't necessarily great, but the capabilities of being able to run it and or have somebody else run it has become more valuable. "I think open source is still very robust," says Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. The cloud providers could continue to offer a service based on the open source that if they're willing to put in the effort to maintain it., he adds.
