What's the Difference Between Chinese Character and English Character?

In chinese, characters are made of strokesen after we don't think of a alphabet letter that way. A character is almost three dimensional. For example, there's a triangular character with one horizontal line that means big. But if you add one more line above it, the word sounds completely different and it means sky. That's how complicated chinese is to day. It was even more complicated before. So china needed to limit the variations. And in the late 19 fifties, chairman mau's new communist government set up a committee to do just that, standardize the language.
