The Weirdness of EA and Randomized Control Trials
I think there's an impulse to do as a form of social engineering with social science right where we are trying to control the world and make it function in a way, according to our norms and values. So I just wonder if there's something about EA and randomized control trials that is hubristic progressive technocracy at the expense of like community knowledge decentralized knowledge. All the weirdness that results in good things happening that we never could have thought up at Harvard or McKinsey or whatever. It wouldn't be right to call myself like a left libertarian I don't think but a lot of the political philosophy I'm sympathetic to is not very centralized right.
