The Taxi Cab Number
In 1914, the mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan went from India to England to work with the mathematician G. H. Hardy after impressing him with his mathematical intuition that he just like wrote out in a letter. Unfortunately, at one point, Ramanujan fell ill and so Hardy took a cab to visit him. He later wrote this in his memoirs: "I had written in taxi cab number 1729 ... I hoped it was not an unfavorable omen"
