The Congolese government is not doing remotely enough to stop these armed groups, he says. Felix Sissickely deserves some credit for seeking help from the wider East African region,. But we know from Eastern Congress long and turbulent history that outsiders often meddle in the region, making things worse. Even those with pure intentions, such as the UN, are unable to do anything sustainably to improve the situation so long as the Congolese army remains abject and so corrupt.
