Some people argue that making someone inactive accelerates the rate of muscle mass loss if you're elderly. The other perspective is elderly people behave the same, it's just that their initial levels are lower. If you have someone who's frail with very low muscle mass, putting them in bed may not have a major effect on their muscle mass because they're already wasted.
