The Moral Superiority of Owning a Home

In the United States, we have had without deep public pushing of home ownership, a kind of weird homeostasis around 60%. 60% of households feature people who want to own their homes. Why is there something morally superior to owning rather than somebody who wants to pick up stakes every two years and move somewhere else? We saw what happened when people got locked in their homes because the property values plummeted.
