LZ Granderson: Scientology's celebrity relationship is unique to the religion. He says Hubbard started idea of recruiting celebrities because they set trends in society. LZ: There hasn't been any new, big celebrity in Scientology since Kirstie Allie and John Travolta were first brought into it. "They are a great way of reaching a lot of people with your message," he says.
