Is Soil Always Necessary?

Soil is different than dirt. You can't grow stuff in dirt in order to really grow food. It has to be in soil because of all the microbes. Estimates are that it could be completely depleted in as little as 50 years. We have less phosphorus than we have soil and it's expected that we're going to hit peak phosphorus around 2030. So we're talking about less than 10 years before they're projected that we'll basically hit peak fertilizer.
