The Parallax of Ulysses
Joyce describes Dublin's brothel area as a really taudry place where people might very well be transformed into pigs. Om is also a word that when analyzed refers to three areas of the soul, consciousness, dream consciousness, and the dark realm of dreamless sleep. These three realms of the human psyche together must all be brought together, and when that happens, the arrow can be sent to the center. This idea is the ultimate significance of the parallax theme on which Bloom is meditating throughout Ulysses.
