The Barriers to Access for Prospective Students
The Working Group co-chaired by Barbara Mills found that the problem started when barristers chambers were recruiting students. If you're brown or black and you look at a sea of white faces who have all been to certain universities on a website, you're unlikely to think that you belong there. The selection process itself and the criteria used by chambers in their processes are themselves barriers to access for prospective pupils. Barristers wouldn't be working unless they had clients and clients presumably have an idea of what sort of people they want to advise and represent them. It is important for the public to know that the profession is engaged and in tune with the society itself.
