Spinal Cord Injury - Stimulating the Thoracic Spine to Restore Blood Pressure
Scientists have taken advantage of the remaining nerve infrastructure after a spinal cord injury to stimulate motor neurons and cause movement in a more natural way. Of the nine people in the clinical trial so far, all of them have had their ability to walk restored. There's also potentially scope for new technology that would restore sensation too - which we'll be covering later on in this series when we take a closer look at the sense of touch.
