The Unfairness of Universal Screening for Herpes

An estimated 491 million people ages 15 to 49, which is 13% of the global population have HSV2. Unlike other STIs, herpes is not a notifiable disease and we don't have great state by state data. It's also not universally screened for. Even during pregnancy, even if you're at high risk because of the risk of neonatal transmission, we still don't recommend universal screening.
