The Resus Room

CHAPTER

Do You Have a Collar?

Self extrication should be the standard first line exucation for all patients who do not have a contra indication. The contra inducations are an inability to understand or follow instructions, injuries or base line function that prevents standing on at least one leg. And it gives some examples, such as an unstable pulfic fracture, impalement, obviously, bilator leg fractures. I think where a collar does come in handy is to notify people, both on the pre hospital scene, but also at the hospital, that this neck has not been cleared.
