How Does That Change Writing?

I love the English language and I practice how to deploy it. Did anyone teach you how to be a good writer in that sense? There wasn't an English department at MIT, I know that. Every Oxford student has to write an essay every week. And so we had to get a feel for the cadences of language. How does that change writing when you have to read it aloud? You make it a bit of a performance and you don't drone it. Nowadays they tend to hand them essays in which is more hard work for the tutor.
