5% of applicants to Ivy League schools are athletes, legacies and donor kids. But they represent close to 30% of admits. It matters because these institutions are overrepresented in positions of leadership too. If you're born into the elite, you're going to remain in the elite. Compared to Europe, which is my country, the UK has this reputation of being very class-written.
