The Other Slavery
As many as a million people were enslaved before 1600. It's only in the last couple of decades that people have started even really thinking about Indigenous enslavement at all. In many ways, it is a similar story to what happens with Africans being taken to the Americas. But it's also a distinctive type of experience. And so there are all these reasons that have kind of come together to mean that I think until recently this other slavery has often been ignored or forgotten about.
