The War of 1812
Howard Zinn says in his book, The People's History of the United States that Andrew Jackson was a land speculator, a merchant, and a slave trader. He became a hero of the War of 1812, which was not as usually depicted in American textbooks but a war for the expansion of the new nation. Not all of his enlisted men were enthusiastic for the fighting. There were mutinies, the men were hungry, their enlistment terms were up, they were tired of lighting and wanted to go home.
