The Humanitarian Theory of Punishment
C.S. Lewis wrote an essay called The Humanitarian Theory of Punishment. On that view, you can just go into a conversion and now you're perfected - no jail time or anything. But because their degree of responsibility depends on their history, it can turn out that they're not very much responsible. So structuralists say it doesn't matter that they had this horrible history where they were manipulated. Still responsible because they meet the time slice conditions on freedom.
