As far as he was concerned pushpin is as good as poetry. He didn't have preconceived views about what sort of things were the things that you ought to do to get pleasure from. Bentham particularly in later life became very committed to political democracy but in many respects he'd always been an egalitarian. And his commitment to equality extended far beyond just people it included any sentient being.
