Is There a Lack of Strategy?
If you're only looking at vanity metrics, that's when you can start to get lost. You've got to understand the reason behind why you're creating that particular piece of content and the outcome that you're trying to achieve out of it. If you just do one piece of content for one thing in mind, that's where you're going to fall short. I would speak to that and say that's because you're lacking strategy.
