The British Economy in the 19th Century
In the 19 fifties, britain was richer than it had ever been domestically as a country. In real terms, we are about three and a half times richer per person. We got nearly 70 million people then now. But of the 50 we only had two million people born abroad. And now it's nearly ten million people. So it's a very, very different place. Ad we should recognize how much things have changed wete.
