The spectacular part of this, I stole from Terry Rosio. One of my favorite screenwriters who writes about writing. He talks about spectacular failure as one of the prime ways to build sympathy for a character. When you can use plotting to characterize, you're doing something right. And he uses the beginning of Indiana Jones, which again I've talked about,  on the podcast,. This opening where Indiana, you know, the first movie, he ends up failing.
