The Importance of Slime Molds in the Soil
Stephen L. Stevenson of the University of Arkansas has studied slime molds on all seven continents for the past 45 years. He considered whether slime molds' iridescence and colours could be attracting the attention of vertebrates associated with them, but as not all are eye-catching it is impossible to say. From all indications though, Stephen told me, slime molds in the soil play an essential role in nutrient cycles.
