CHAPTER

You Can't Tell Intention With Nonverbals

Nonverbals are programmed into us. Our biology doesn't tell us our intention. You can look through intention cues through the expression of that, but you cannot tell things like deception detection or what the thought process is behind the behavior. Because we have this common language, we can understand human beings through it because we all share it. So if anyone says, well, it's a point in nonverbal communication, they share this language with you. And I mean, this kind of feeds into the why it's important to study nonverbals and not all nonverbals are universal. But again, we'll talk about that later.
