The book is about a group of patriots who are disaffected with the way the country is going. They realize early on that in order to get any elected to any office, they need a lot of money. And thiss happened very early in the book, that they managed to steal a great deal of money. But the money itself becomes a character and an albatross, because it's not enough to have the money. You've got to be able to use it for your ends justify the means.
