The Death of the Mohist Movement

The decline of the mohuss probably rested on a number of different factors. The radical asceticism that in order to be a good effective altruist, you have to donate as much of your money as possible and not buy any luxuries for yourself because that money could be used to save starving children in Africa. There's definitely an object lesson there. In terms of virtue signaling, we actually have textual evidence for some of this. But it was sort of the fringe areas, the more radical areas of the Mohists group that sort of had the most control over PR and got the most attention.
