The New Deal and the New Deal Order in New York
The new deal order had become intertwined with the rise of suburbia and the flight from cities. New york was a reminder that there was also an urban version of this political and social sensibility, one that emphasized public investment more than private green wards of lawns and country clubs. The idea that there's a way in which these two contradictory visions get worked out is really interesting.
