The first person to pen an editorial against the 1798 Alien and Sedition Act is in Kentucky. William Hunter was a publisher of a newspaper called The Mirror in Washington, Kentucky. John Adams did not believe that a jury in Kentucky would convict him because Kentucky was a hotbed Democratic Republicanism or anti-Federalism.
