Sleep Research - Slow Wave Sleep vs REM Sleep

Sleep latency, like how long it took to actually fall asleep was a little bit shorter in the short sleep condition. The actual sleep that they attained was closer to about seven and a half hours per night versus about five hours and 15 minutes per night. They seem to get a similar amount of slow wave sleep, but REM sleep was significantly greater for the longer sleep condition. That's one potential mechanism that may have contributed to different effects on body comp.
