The Battle of Plataea

Thebes attacked Plataea in the time of peace, but were stopped by city's residents. They had taken 180 Theban prisoners as hostages and threatened to kill them if they didn't retreat immediately. But an Athenian herald with their message to Plataea arrived too late,. And so the Plataeaans gave way to their anger and executed all 180 of their captives.
