Until I went to medical school, my interaction with non-English speaking upper-middle class people was very limited. It took me a long time to get over that prejudice, thinking that in India, only people that can speak English are worth talking to. So, then I had to make a conscious effort to actually start talking to people and talk about lots of serious stuff in Punjabi, Hindi or English.
