Is Preexisting a Fib Associated With a Lower Rate of M I?

The authors speculate that we might be using oral anti coagulation more quickly in patience with a fib, and that with lower mi rates. But if that were the case, why would it not also lower stroke rate? Stroke rates were higher inpatient with a pib than those who didn't have an apib. To me, this is an existential weakness of the study.
