What's the D M N in the Brain?
The amigdala, the sea horse shaped structure in our brain that's related to learning and memory. That increases in volume in the yogis versus the non yogis. The pre frontal cortex is involved with executive control. There's more blood flow going there when you have practised yoga for an extended period of time. When we're resting and supposedly not doing anything, the default mode network activates. It's what's kind of the background noise. So by doing something like practising yoga, like meditation, we are quieting the default mod network. And that can have profound, profound implications for anyone dealing with depression,. but also any of us that tend to slip into that place
